As a child I loved this artist. I had cards with her prints on them and a couple of posters. She lived in San Francisco and passed away in '97 from cancer. She was born in Brazil in '47.She started drawing and painting animals on the farm she grew up on and then went a spiritual route...a lot of American Indigenous influences. She drew her inspiration from a wide variety of sources: mythology and
poetry, Jungian psychology and worldwide spiritual traditions, as well
as a deep love of animal and the natural world.

The Art of Michael Whelan
I have been fond of this artist since I was a young teenager and would like to share some of his work.
Here is a picture of a painting he did of his daughter. It was to mark the point in her life where she is reaching womanhood. Background inspired by when he visited Australia.
I remember my mother reading a book called "The Stone of Farewell" which had a cover done by him.
I had a dream once where I had this image come to life, before I had seen this.
This painting is of an Anne McCathery book from the "Dragons of Pern" series.
One of my favorites is this one of Elric Demonslayer.
Sepultura cover.
Then he would do these amazingly peaceful paintings like this:
In a book of his works, he mentions how this series got a lot of feedback from people in his studio. They were assume the texture in this painting was actual texture, when in fact, the surface of the canvas was smooth.
Here is a website that has a lot of his dragon paintings among other wonderful works of detail.

Thee Art of SCIENCE!
Not only do I have a wonderment for art and music, I have it as well for science.
When art and science are combined, I am really pleased and impressed... most of the time.
For example, ferrofluid artists. Ferrofluid is a liquid that becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field.
It's mineral oil, with iron dust impregnated within, and with a bit of
surfactant to keep it all together. It's being manipulated by a couple
magnets HeRE by Shawn Knol. This artist has really enjoyed playing with ferrofluid and has made a few videos of this passion. Her name is [Sachiko Kodoma] from Tokyo.
(2:20 to 3min is really neat).
a close up here:
A video on how he makes this is at the bottom of the page HERE
I find this very inspirational and hope to get more into coming my love if visual art with....

aMused by... Romaine Brooks
First of all, thank you to this site for all the information.
One of my favorite artists when I was younger was Romain Brooks. Her ability to create striking yet somber paintings is something I am rather impressed and influenced by. She had a very rough childhood and did her best to cope.
A self protrait.
